How to Use WallApp to Mount Your Paintings
If you have several rooms with bare walls and want to see which wall displays your new painting the best, here is an amazing tool to help you do that.
The best part is that this tool is free, doesn’t need downloaded, and is easy to use.
How to Use WallApp
Step 1: Take a photo of your wall.
Take this picture with clear lighting.
Make sure you include elements like couches, carpets, lamps, doors, etc. that will affect how your painting looks.
Step 2: Take a picture of the painting you want to hang.
If the painting is framed, include the frame in the picture. Edit the picture and crop out the edges so you only have a picture of the painting.
Step 3: Go to WallApp
With your phone or computer, go to WallApp at this link.
WallApp works best from a laptop computer. It glitched quite a bit while using my cell phone. Despite the name, WallApp is not an app that needs to be downloaded in order to use.
You will see this page.
Step 4: Look in the top left of the screen. Click on “Your Room”
Step 5: Upload the photo of your wall.
This wall already has a painting on it. That is fine, because we are going to cover it anyway.
Step 6: Click “Drag Your Artwork Here”
Step 7: Upload your photo!
Now you can move the painting around the wall and easily adjust the size. This will help you visualize more easily and avoid common errors like hanging the painting too high.
Step 8: If you want to compare different paintings and rooms, you will want to save the file.
Just hit the green button, “Save File.”
Done! Your file of the painting and wall should look like this.
A couple downsides to WallApp…
A couple things I noticed are:
Be careful when downloading your image. If you don’t give your computer time to download, the image may be incomplete.
Also, WallApp doesn’t have a way to view multiple paintings like a series or triptych.
Have a wonderful time designing your living space!
Read this article to avoid some common pitfalls when you actually hang your painting.
